FALLS ARE THE LEADING CAUSE OF DEATH
Falls continue to be a leading cause of death in construction and remain the leading cause of death for employees; accounting for 370 of the 991 construction fatalities and 697 of the 5,190 fatalities in all industries recorded in 2016. These deaths are preventable.
Everyone has a role in helping prevent falls, not just during the fall stand-down campaign, but each and every day. It is through our combined efforts that we will be successful in reducing fall fatalities and injuries. The Fall Prevention Campaign raises awareness among both workers and employers about common fall hazards, and how falls from ladders, scaffolds, and roofs can be prevented.
Workers who are at risk need to be protected. To protect these workers, employers must think about preventing falls and providing workers with the right equipment for the job, including the right type of ladder, scaffold, and fall protection and safety gear.
